Already a popular destination for other Europeans, Sarıgerme is now being discovered by British holidaymakers. The small town of Osmaniye becomes quite lively in the summer months and the main street has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. Undoubtedly though, the main attraction is the beautiful sandy beach of Sarıgerme, located just 850 metres from the town centre. With it’s sunbeds, variety of watersports and a shady wooded picnic area on the fringe of the beach, it is an ideal place to while away the hours for those holidaying or living in the area. The name ‘Sarıgerme’ comes from the Sariçay stream that divides Osmaniye and the coast and was once used as the transportation route for timber being brought from the forest down to the sea. The island of Baba Adası, situated just off the coast, shelters the bay and is also a point where boats and yachts sailing between Marmaris and Göcek moor regularly. The outward facing side of the island is rocky and is a popular place for diving into the cool blue waters. If you are a confident swimmer it is possible to swim over to the island and climb to the peak for a bird’s eye view of the beautiful scenery. |
